Black Hill Ecology Ltd is based in the North East of Scotland and provides ecological services, including bat surveys, tree surveys and habitat surveys to Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Angus and beyond. Please contact us to discuss any of our services.

Bat Surveys

Bats and other protected species (e.g. otters, badgers) are protected by domestic and international law and survey reports for planning applications are increasingly requested by local planning authorities. Surveys are required for all planning applications where there is a likelihood of protected species being encountered including house extensions, wind farms and tree works. Our experienced staff determine the impact of the proposed development on bats and other protected species and advise and carry out mitigation requirements for European Protected Species (EPS) licensing and planning authority requirements.

Tree Surveys

Tree Surveys and survey reports for planning applications are increasingly requested by local planning authorities (such as Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire, Moray, Angus Council). A tree survey to British Standard 5837: Trees in Relation to Construction provides the information required to integrate existing trees on and around the development site with the proposed development. Our experienced staff produce Tree Reports including a Tree Assessment Plan or Tree Constraints Plan that details Root Protection Areas (RPAs) and advice on mitigation and compensation requirements suitable for planning authority requirements.

Habitat Surveys

Habitat surveys and survey reports for planning applications are increasingly requested by local planning authorities. Phase 1 and Extended Phase 1 Habitat Surveys to Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) methodology provide the information required to assess the impact on local habitats and identify protected habitats and species. Our experienced staff provide Habitat Reports with colour coded habitat maps allowing visual assessment of the distribution and extent of different habitat types and list Target Notes detailing key habitat features and identifying areas important to protected species suitable for planning authority requirements.
